In response to the Nth complaint I've heard from people about:
Coding Interviews / GRE/ GMAT/ <insert your (least) favorite standard test>
After thinking about shit like that for a long time I've come to the conclusion that a bunch of these tests have nothing to do with what you will actually do in a role its just a standardized way of testing raw intellectual horsepower.
can you think through a complex algorithm at all (even if 4/5 times you’ll use a library someone wrote already )
Or can you remember / do you already know a bunch of random shit.
Vocabulary tests for instance are about the latter.
Winston Churchill once said of democracy.
Many forms of Government have been tried and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed, it has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.
I believe Coding Interviews and <insert standardized test> are one in the same with democracy in this sentiment.
They are the least bad heuristic we have for your aptitude level.
Step up, Step out, or find us something better and prove its better.
